Pennsylvania Climate Action Plan 2021 outlines a pathway to reaching Pennsylvania’s greenhouse gas reduction goals: 26 percent by 2025 and 80 percent by 2050 from 2005 levels. Read the complete plan.
To complement the statewide climate action strategies and tailor them for Montgomery County, the Montgomery County Consortium of Communities and the Montgomery County Planning Commission began to participate in the PA Department of Environmental Protections’ Local Climate Action Program (LCAP) in June 2020. Utilizing resources provided by DEP, the Local Governments for Sustainability (ICELI) and the ClearPath Greenhouse Gas Inventory Tool, the Delaware Valley Regional Planning Commission, the Montco 2050 Regional Climate Action Plan will be developed and presented to local governing bodies.
The Montco 2050 Regional Climate Action Plan will be a guide to engage and empower local communities, including municipal officials, businesses, and residents in reducing regional greenhouse gas emissions and climate impacts. Montco Climate Action highlights regional climate vulnerabilities, includes an inventory of greenhouse gas emissions (GHGs) from community-wide activities for each municipality in Montgomery County, establishes feasible emissions reduction targets, and outlines strategies to achieve emissions reduction and resilience goals.
The Montco Climate Action is intended to support existing plans, coordinate meaningful action, and overall better prepare our communities for the future. It is not meant to replace any other previous climate change planning adopted by the county or municipalities, nor should preclude future climate change planning.
This Climate Action Plan will be made available by early 2023 and was made possible through a grant agreement with Local Governments for Sustainability (ICLEI) and the PA Department of Environmental Protection, which was funded by the US Department of Energy State Energy Program.
