Monthly Programs!

All programs are limited space and require registration. Once you register, meeting location will be provided.

Saturday, January 20  11:00am to 12:30pm
Trout in the Classroom Series
Join us for another year of Trout in the Classroom (TIC)! During this program you will observe Rainbow Trout eggs go through their life cycle and then be released in Kepner Creek. Also you will learn about water quality, fishing, and macroinvertebrates! You will have two chances per month starting December through May of 2024 to join us. The topic for each month will be different but will remain the same for both dates of the month. In this session we will be learning about the different trout species, their life cycle, and checking our tanks water quality.
This program will be held in our indoor space. Norristown Farm Park’s participation in the Trout in the Classroom program was made possible through a partnership between the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission (PFBC) and the Pennsylvania Council of Trout Unlimited (PATU).

Education Center Open House

Come explore our education center! This indoor space has displays to learn about mammals, bats, watersheds and more. Also you can visit with our critters, including our rabbits, reptiles, and trout! The building will be staffed from 10am until 3pm. No registration needed for this event, please park in parking lot #1 and walk across the driveway to the building. We will continue with open houses once a month, switching between weekdays and weekends. Reach out with any questions!

History Series- Slavery in Pennsylvania
 
Join us for Montgomery County Region III’s winter history lecture series! Topics in this series include History of Pennsylvania to 1800 (Jan. 13), Slavery in Pennsylvania (Feb. 10), and Life in 18th Century Pennsylvania (Mar. 9). A great opportunity to delve deeper into Pennsylvania history and learn something new! Lectures will be held indoor at Norristown Farm Park on the second Saturday in January, February, and March at 2:00pm. 
Honor Black History Month with a lecture on the history of the institution of slavery in Pennsylvania. The first enslaved individuals arrived in the territory prior to Pennsylvania’s founding as a colony and soon-there-after abolitionists began to speak out. Explore the life of Pennsylvania’s enslaved, the passing of the Gradual Abolition Act of 1780 and its results, as well as civil rights issues in the decades before the Civil War. End with a discussion about the legacy of abolition in Pennsylvania.

Morning Bird Walk
Join park staff for a morning bird walk. Come observe some amazing birds that are only stopping by.  Bring binoculars if you have them. Wear sturdy shoes for hiking.

Homeschool- Quail
Pennsylvania has one quail species known as the Bobwhite Quail. These quails are not as common as they once were. Come discover quail basic and why their population has decrease. We will also be incubating a captive breed of quail. Get a chance to see how the chicks grow within the eggs. This program is an indoor event. Two time slots available 11am or 1pm. Please include your preferred time slot in the registration.

Great Backyard Bird Count at NFP
Come help us participate in the Great Backyard Bird Count! This program is worldwide and uses technology including eBird and Merlin in collecting data. Join us to watch birds, learn about birds, and learn about the technology used in birding. This program is great for beginner or more experienced birders! Bring binoculars if you have them, if not borrow one of ours. Wear sturdy shoes for hiking.

Nature Explorers:  Quails 
‘BOBWHITE’ is a loud sound that comes from a tiny bird. These birds are known as quails. Join us to learn about Bobwhite Quail. Create a quail craft to take home. Then get a chance to meet some newly hatched domestic baby quails! Two time slots available 10am or 1pm. Please include your preferred time slot in the registration.
Age 3-6 with adult; $3 craft fee
