Asbestos is not accepted at county Household Hazardous Waste events. Shingles, tiles, piping, and other materials containing asbestos should be removed only by a contractor who is licensed to do so.  For a large quantity, you may try searching for 'Asbestos Removal and Abatement Services' or try the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for more information.  Also visit the Handling & Disposing Asbestos: Guide to Safe Removal for information on how to identify asbestos and protect yourself and your family from exposure.

For remodeling or demolition projects be aware that asbestos was a popular a fire-proofing material that was used in roofing products as well as other commercial and consumer products from the 1920's to the 1980's at which time it was banned by the EPA. If you removed a very small quantity, you may double wrap in plastic trash bags and put in the trash or check with a Construction & Demolition facility.
